NSUAAA Hosts NSU VC Prof. Atiqul Islam in Melbourne

The Honourable Vice Chancellor of North South University (NSU), Professor Atiqul Islam, Ph.D., met with the working committee of the NSU Alumni Association of Australia (NSUAAA) at The Dock on the waterfront in Victoria Harbour, Melbourne. The event, titled “Shaping Tomorrow: Future Planning & Strategic Collaboration Session between NSU & NSUAAA,” highlighted the collaboration between the university and its alumni to support the community. The event began with a brief introduction of the members of the NSUAAA working committee, who shared their mission, vision, core values, and an overview of both their planned and past activities. This introduction set the stage for a productive dialogue between the alumni association and the university. Professor Atiqul Islam expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the young organisation and provided valuable insights into how the university and NSUAAA can collaborate to better serve the alumni community in Australia and beyond. He outlined a strategic plan that emphasised the importance of partnership and mutual support. The evening concluded with a delectable dinner, where lively and warm over-the-table discussions took place, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose among all attendees. This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between North South University and its alumni in Australia, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both the institution and its global community of graduates.
The event was the latest addition to the ongoing activities over the last 12 months, where NSUAAA and NSU, through the Office of External Affairs (OEA), joined hands to provide support to the alumni community both in Bangladesh and Australia. Following a recent meet-up at NSU, where Ms. Sadia Huq, the joint convenor of NSUAAA, extended a formal invitation to the Honourable Vice Chancellor to visit Melbourne for an introductory session of the organisation, Dr. Islam took time off during his personal trip in Sydney to be with the NSUAAA working group in Melbourne amid his otherwise busy schedule.
The event began with a brief introduction of the NSUAAA by Mr. Faysal Bashar and Mr. Shakib Ahmed, who highlighted the organisation's purpose, unique flat structure, and inclusive message that promotes unrestricted engagement from all community members. They emphasised the justification for the association's existence and its mission to include members from diverse backgrounds. Later, Mr. Rahi Khondker and Dr. Kamal Mahmud, both representing the very first batches of the university, stressed the importance of the alumni association in adding value to both its members and the alma mater by supporting them through personal and professional engagements in various capacities.
In his speech, the Honourable Vice Chancellor echoed the sentiments of the speakers and described how NSU has become the top private university in the country over the last decade and is on its way to becoming one of the leading universities in the world under 50 years of age. Additionally, Dr. Islam praised the efforts of NSUAAA, adding, “I am quite impressed with the thought process leading towards the vision, mission, and core values of NSUAAA presented today. I must say, this can be a good example of how an alumni association should function and can be followed in other parts of the world where similar NSU-based organisations are trying to serve the alumni community.” The Vice Chancellor also shared future plans for expanding the university’s educational services and physical campuses, and how NSUAAA can support overcoming challenges by playing their roles in the community.
Following the speech, the Honourable Vice Chancellor was presented with a beautiful plaque commemorating the event by senior members of NSUAAA, Zaara Tanzila Bari, Rahi Khondker, and Dr. Kamal Mahmud. In return, he presented NSUAAA with a token of appreciation bearing the symbol of NSU. The event was masterfully hosted by Moum Mazid, who entertained everyone throughout the evening. The Vice Chancellor then joined a dinner hosted by NSUAAA, which ended with a vote of thanks from everyone.
